A guarantee of fair prices at Sydney Airport is providing good news for Brindabella services in Cooma.
It's just been announced the Federal Government is guaranteeing access to Sydney Airport for regional airlines and their passengers until 2016.
Assistant Treasurer, David Bradbury, has updated rules which confirm ongoing fair prices, and means Sydney Airport cannot increase its charges for egional airlines above CPI, ensuring Brindabella can continue to offer its 12 flights to and from Cooma each week during high season.
Member for Eden-Monaro, Dr Mike Kelly, made the announcement this week. He said in addition, access to Sydney Airport during peak periods for regional air services will continue to be protected by the Slot Management Scheme.
"Sydney Airport is approaching capacity and regional airlines face real pressure to maintain their access in that environment," Dr. Kelly said.
"Extending current arrangements until 2016 ensures commercial pressures don't push our regional carriers like Brindabella out, in favour of larger airlines."
In the last twelve months, over 67,000 regional airline flights into and out of Sydney Airport, carrying almost two million passengers.
