The Michelago Rural Fire Brigade is reminding local residents about the proper procedure around lighting fires.

When lighting a fire outside of the bush fire season (April to September) whether you rent, lease or own the property its your responsibly to notify your neighbours and local Fire control centre 24 hours prior to ignition.

During the fire season (October to March) a permit is required in addition to calling neighbours and the local FCC.

They say a couple of quick calls can save local RFS brigades having to turn out unnecessarily and eases concerns of neighbours.
